Shaqir O’Neal, son of basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal is heading to the Highest of Seven Hills.
“Shaqir has played in one of the premier programs in our conference and for a great head coach,” said head coach Patrick Crarey. “He brings versatility, athleticism, and experience to our team. I’m excited he chose me to help him achieve his goals.”
Shaqir had spent the previous three seasons at Texas Southern, posting career averages of 1.6 points, and 1.3 rebounds in only 8.5 minutes per contest. His career-best effort came in a 12-point, 7-rebound outing last season against the Stallions of North American on December 11, 2022.
O’Neal is the eighth signing since Patrick Crarey was announced as the Rattlers’ men’s basketball coach on April 17. Crarey’s status is still somewhat up in the air as the FAMU Board of Trustees voted to table the ratification of his three-year, $450,000 deal amid questions around an alleged mass roster dismissal he orchestrated, volunteer coach status, and salary.
The FAMU men’s hoops team tips off play in the 2024-25 season when they will hit the road to take on Texas Christian University on November 4.
